Your Cap Style

products with various bottle cap styles

A unique cap style can differentiate your product on shelves and offer a differentiated consumer experience. Understanding your cap style is a key step in selecting the right induction sealer and sealing coil for your packaging line.

There are a wide variety of cap styles used in packaging liquids, tablets, capsules, powders, and food. Whether you are a contract packager needing to seal any cap or you run the same SKU all year, Pillar can help you select the right power supply and sealing coil for your packaging line.

Let’s look at a variety of common cap styles and the optimal combination of sealing heads and power supply for a reliable seal. We thrive on new applications and learning about your particular challenge; if you would like to discuss lab trials at Pillar and a personalized system recommendation, don’t hesitate to contact us! Standard Flat Caps

Simple flat caps are flat closures that are typically threaded and ribbed or smooth. They are used for a wide variety of different applications. They can be found in food and beverage containers, such as cooking oils, peanut butter, and more. They’re used in health and beauty for products such as creams and ointments. Flat caps are also common for vitamins and supplements. For standard flat caps Pillar recommends the iFoiler and universal coil. For higher volume, the 4 or 6 kw Unifoiler with a universal coil maximizes throughput. Flat caps typically pair best with universal coils and iFoiler power supply. For high throughput applications, a 4 or 6 kw unifoiler is recommended.

Flip-Top Dispensing Caps

Flip-top dispensing caps feature an easy open flip top, with a hole in the inner cap for dispensing liquids. They are used for a variety of liquid products. They’re used in the health and beauty industry for products such as shampoos and conditioners, body creams, and body oils. It also finds use in food products such as honey and condiments. The ideal coil depends on the distance from the top of the cap to the induction seal; for short dispensing caps a universal coil will likely be most suitable. For taller dispensing caps, an inFininty tunnel coil is recommended.

Sifter and Shaker Caps

Threaded, flip-top, and dual flip-top sifter caps feature holes and other openings in the inner cap. They are used primarily for herbs and spices as well as other food products, such as parmesan cheese. They also see use for other powdered products, such as talcum. Most sifter caps are best paired with universal coils and an iFoiler power supply. For high throughput, a 4 or 6 kw Unifoiler and universal coil is recommended.

Child Resistant Caps

Child resistant caps are typically flat caps which use a variety of methods to make them difficult to open for children. Most commonly, they require the consumer to squeeze or push the cap in order to open it. Child resistant caps are used primarily for pharmaceuticals, which can pose a major safety risk to children if ingested. They can also be found on various household chemicals, such as bleach, and on automotive chemicals, such as antifreeze. Child resistant caps typically extend the height of the cap, which could make a universal coil a poor match for certain applications. For the best efficiency, an iFoiler and inFinity tunnel coil may be recommended.

Push-Pull and Spouted Caps

Various caps including push-pull, spouted, turret, yorker, twist top, disc top, push-pull or flip top, behave similarly for induction sealing. These caps are primarily found on bottles of water and sports drinks, providing an easy open bottle that can even be opened using only the mouth. These cap styles are also found on dishwashing detergent, glues, gels, and oils. The distance from the seal to the top of the cap will dictate whether a universal coil will be suitable or if an inFinity tunnel must be employed for the application. In either case an iFoiler power supply is an excellent option.

"I need to seal many cap styles and sizes with just one system"

As you can see above, the iFoiler is among the most versatile induction sealers on the market today. When paired with the proper coil, the iFoiler is capable of sealing any cap style, including spouted caps, and cap sizes from 10mm to 150mm.

The iFoiler features interchangeable sealing heads, which can be switched out without the use of tools. All that’s required is loosening a few thumb screws, popping off a bracket, and you’re ready to replace the coil. This allows you to change your sealing coil extremely quickly, which is handy if you need to change from sealing flat caps with a universal coil to sealing spouted caps with our inFininty tunnel coil

Pillar cap sealers also feature integrated memory functions, allowing you to save parameters for different applications and quickly call them up as needed. Supervisors and managers can lock the memory functions with a passcode so that only certified personnel can access and change applications, reducing the risk of operator error.

Our induction cap sealers give you the flexibility to handle almost any cap style or design that comes your way. If you’re interested in Pillar induction cap sealers for your company, contact us or request a quote today.
